Dorset could get high-speed wireless broadband network
Plans have been announced for a fast wireless broadband network to be rolled out in Dorset.
Speaking to BBC News, a BT spokesperson insisted that slower broadband is a "fact of life" in rural areas, due to distances from telephone exchanges and the fact that wires are made from copper.
While the telecoms giant and some other internet service providers are looking to lay fibre optic broadband cables throughout the UK, social network consultant Dr Monica Seeley claimed this is unlikely to benefit Dorset.
Dr Seeley, head of the Digital Dorset Taskforce, said: "If one is honest, most providers are not going to put down cable.
"[Therefore], one of the most attractive propositions for large parts of Dorset is wireless."
At the end of last month, BT unveiled plans to spend up to £132 million on creating a super-fast network in Cornwall that will be capable of delivering download speeds of up to 100Mb/s.
