Dumfries and Galloway MP warns of low broadband demand
Demand for superfast broadband in Dumfries and Galloway is "worryingly low", according to local Labour MP Russell Brown.

A survey has been carried out by the South of Scotland Next Generation Broadband Project to ascertain how many people across the region are eager to access fibre optic-based connectivity.

However, little interest has been generated in Dumfries and Galloway, reports the Galloway Gazette. The rate of registration is just 0.38 per cent in Stranraer and is only 0.1 percentage points better in Dumfries.

Across the council area, only a handful of towns or villages have registration rates in double figures, whereas in the nearby Borders region some communities are at more than 50 per cent.

"This is a real concern, especially in rural areas where broadband is already difficult to get," Mr Brown warned. "We need all those who live in rural areas to register."

He added that by signalling their support for the rollout, residents can help to persuade suppliers that a "real appetite" exists for faster broadband.
