Some of Gloucestershire's elderly residents have attended an event designed to boost their awareness and knowledge of fibre optic broadband.

Homeowners from Forest of Dean have been enjoying increased next-generation coverage over recent months, thanks to the Fastershire rollout project, which is part of the government's Broadband Delivery UK programme.

However, conscious that some of the area's older people may not have the know-how to take full advantage of the technology, Mitcheldean and Drybrook Council has set up the computer club at Mitcheldean Library on Monday afternoons.

Councillor Jackie Fraser told the Gloucester Citizen: "It is excellent that the club took place on Monday. I have only had broadband for the past four years as have many people, therefore some people will lack in certain skills."

What's more, those who have not yet gained access to the superfast network can now use a new service to check when their home will be upgraded.
