Farron challenges BT on broadband
Tim Farron, Chairman of the Liberal Democrats and South Lakes MP, has urged BT to be more transparent about its fibre optic rollout.

Writing to Ed Vaizey, the Conservative Communications Minister, Mr Farron outlined his belief that BT was not doing enough to tell members of the public when they would be receiving boosted download speeds, reports ITV.

"I wrote to the Minister today to push for a Ministerial directive under which BT would be statutorily required to specify the precise locations to which the programme will guarantee to deliver," said Mr Farron.

Rural broadband has been slow to roll out in Cumbria, where Mr Farron is an MP, although some mobile arrays have brought fast download speeds in certain areas.

Last year, EE announced it had activated a 4G connection in Cumbria. The company hopes that rural residents will take advantage of speeds over 20Mbps, while similar projects are set to take place elsewhere in the UK.
