Fibre broadband work criticised by Bournemouth councillors
Bournemouth council chiefs have hit out at a fibre optic broadband provider for concerns over the work it is doing to roll out the technology.

The local authority will hold a meeting with the directors of Fibrecity today (January 21st 2011) and is set to demand the broadband company carries out repairs to damage caused since the project got underway last October.

Council approval is not required for the company to deploy the fibre optic cables, but the body has been conducting quality checks on trenches that have been dug during the rollout.

Since the initiative began, a number of pavements and roads have required "remedial work", explained councillor Peter Charon.

He added: "We will be insisting all the works are carried out to a high standard and, where this is not the case, additional work carried out."

Once the scheme is complete, home and business broadband speeds in excess of 100Mbps will be available in Bournemouth, according to Fibrecity.
