Free Wi-Fi launches at Lake District visitor centres
Visitors to Lake District National Park information centres can now access wireless broadband, allowing them to browse the web on mobile devices without having to pay data charges.

The Wi-Fi service is available at Windermere's Bowness Bay, Keswick's Moot Hall and Ullswater's Glenridding information centres, and can be accessed by customers once they have completed a short registration.

Switched on last month, the wireless broadband proposition has already proved popular at all three sites.

National Park Information Services project manager Olivia Clarke predicted the service will mainly be used to send emails, book accommodation and research places to go in the Lake District.

"More and more people are using smartphones, laptops and tablets whilst on the move to plan their stay within the national park," she commented.

Ms Clarke added that people increasingly expect popular attractions to provide free wireless internet access and said the national park authority is looking to deliver "a modern, friendly and accessible service".
