Further fibre broadband boost for Yorkshire residents
Slaithwaite and Heckmondwike have been introduced to fibre optic broadband access.
Residents and businesspeople in the areas of Slaithwaite and Heckmondwike have been connected to the next-generation service as part of a nationwide project by BT, which has seen a total investment of £2.5 billion.
As the service provider's engineers continue to carry out work on the installation in the coming weeks, it is expected around 16,500 premises will benefit upon the completion of the project.
Kirklees Council Cabinet Member Peter McBride welcomed the move and explained the advantages that will be brought to local communities will boost the the area, not just in social terms, but economically as well.
He said: "The upgrade represents real progress and I look forward to a time when this vital part of our communications infrastructure is available everywhere in Kirklees."
The move has seen Slaithwaite and Heckmondwike connected before the nearby town of Huddersfield, which BT says will be upgraded by the end of spring 2014.
