Improvement needed in Oxfordshire broadband coverage, says OEP
The Oxfordshire Economic Partnership has called for improvements in broadband coverage across the county.
Estimates indicate only around one-third of the county has more than a 50 per cent chance of being connected to next-generation ADSL infrastructure by 2015, reports the Oxford Mail.
With this in mind, the Oxfordshire Economic Partnership (OEP) held a conference on Saturday (September 25th 2010) to highlight the issue, with communication minister Ed Vaizey among the attendees.
Chairman of the OEP David Doughty called for builders and developers to install fibre optic broadband at all new properties.
He added: "This digital summit is the first step in a campaign to make sure the county is hardwired into the nation's digital future."
Meanwhile, the Communities Partnership Executive of North Dorset recently moved to lobby internet service providers such as BT to ensure the south-west region does not miss out on being connected to high-speed broadband.
North Dorset is in the "final third" of BT's fibre optic broadband plans, the Bournemouth Daily Echo reported.
