KC to install and manage comms network for Humberside fire service
KC has been chosen to install and operate Humberside Fire and Rescue Service's new communications network.
Under the deal, the east Yorkshire-based internet service provider will hook up 32 HFRS sites to each other and essential computer applications, which will be hosted at KC's Hull data centre.
In addition, the company - which was awarded the contract after a rigorous selection process - will roll out and operate a private broadband backup service guaranteeing web and systems access in the event that the primary network fails.
A virtual private network will also be delivered as part of the agreement, allowing employees to work from home or on the move and remotely access HFRS systems.
Gary Young, business and consumer director at KC, said: "As public sector organisations step up to the challenge of delivering more and better services, often with shrinking resources, IT and communications is an area where efficiencies can be found without compromising service quality."
