Mobile broadband traffic to be dominated by video, experts say
Global mobile broadband traffic will be dominated by video in 2011, a network capacity solutions provider has forecast.

California-based Bytemobile revealed this form of content accounted for around 40 per cent of mobile data usage in 2010, with this figure expected to rise to 60 per cent this year.

The capacity of wireless networks will largely be taken up by personal video communications, the company claimed, to the extent that ten per cent of users will account for nine-tenths of all traffic.

Adrian Hall, chief operating officer of Bytemobile, said carriers - such as the UK's Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone - will be faced with "increased demand for capacity on their networks".

These comments come in the wake of predictions from Ericsson, which stated the total number of mobile broadband subscriptions will double before the end of the year.

The number of these lines hit the 500 million mark last year and will rise to one billion at some point in 2011, the telecoms giant claimed.
