North Swindon residents start petition for better broadband
A group of residents from Swindon have launched a petition to introduce faster broadband speeds to the area of Haydon Wick.

Some properties in the civil parish had been scheduled to be covered by a new exchange that was installed by service provider BT.

However, because of an 'administrative error', the majority of homes and businesses were not transferred to the cabinet.

The petition was started by 37-year-old Colin Polonowski, who explained to the Swindon Advertiser how the oversight had occurred.

He claims that when the Haydon Wick exchange was set up, BT's records were not updated to note that residents had been transferred from the nearby Blunsdon exchange, meaning it appeared the latter was "massively oversubscribed".

In contrast, Haydon Wick looked as though it was serving very few users, therefore rendering it commercially unviable for a fibre optic rollout.

Residents and councillors are now hoping the petition could lead to government funding that would facilitate a fibre optic upgrade.
