A new scheme will help small businesses in Nottingham's Creative Quarter to access faster broadband connections.

The CQ Connection programme will provide connectivity vouchers that will help SMEs to purchase extra technology equipment they need to make the most of improved infrastructure in the East Midlands city.

Councillor Nick McDonald, Portfolio Holder for Jobs and Growth, told the Nottingham Post: "Improving digital connectivity for businesses in the Creative Quarter was a key promise for the City Deal to enable entrepreneurship to flourish."

An overall sum of £800,000 has been set aside by the European Regional Development Fund for the vouchers, which range from £250 to £3,000 each.

Kevin Hartley, the co-owner of Hartleys - a cafe in Nottingham - welcomed the news, calling it a "fantastic idea", while James Pink, who owns an IT repair shop, said: "I think the initiative is great."

Interested businesses should submit a funding application to the council by March 31 2015.
