Rutland to receive super-fast broadband by end of 2013
Super-fast broadband is set to be rolled out across Rutland by the end of the year as part of a government-backed initiative.

The Digital Rutland project has been awarded £820,000 of public money to help fund the necessary infrastructure upgrades, with Rutland County Council now making its final preparations before the deployment can get underway.

Terry King, the local authority's deputy leader, said residents in Oakham, Uppingham and the surrounding villages will see "an influx of engineers" once the strategy is given the green light by Broadband Delivery UK.

Work will proceed quickly, Mr King explained, with the first communities potentially being connected as soon as this summer, followed before the end of the year by most of the rest of the county.

Although he stressed that properties in extremely remote parts of Rutland may require "a bit more work", the council chief promised: "Even those in the most rural locations will get [speeds of] between two to 24Mbps."
