Scotland's 1 million fibre milestone impresses
Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has hailed the news of Scotland's one millionth fibre optic broadband connection.

BT announced the news earlier this week (April 10th) and experts from all over the UK have congratulated the nation for its hard work and endeavour in improving infrastructure for rural residents and urbanites alike.

The one million total includes 330,000 premises in the Glasgow and the West region, as well as 190,000 in Edinburgh, 100,000 in Aberdeen and 93,000 in Tayside and Fife.

Ms Sturgeon said: "Today's milestone is fantastic news for households and businesses across Scotland who are now seeing the benefits of high quality digital connectivity. This will be a key factor in ensuring Scotland’s long-term economic prosperity."

It isn't just Scotland that is benefitting from fibre optic investment though, as England and Wales are also receiving substantial investment which has seen hundreds of thousands of homes equipped with download speeds up to 80Mbps.
