Shetlands perfect for high-speed broadband trial, says MSP
The Shetland Islands have been touted as the ideal location for high-speed broadband tests.

Tavish Scott, the MSP for the Shetlands, wrote a letter to culture secretary Jeremy Hunt in which he stated that the area would be perfect to be chosen for one of three places on a rural broadband pilot project.

Mr Hunt has previously expressed his intention to give Scotland the best superfast broadband in Europe and said the trial schemes would be set up to speed this process along, reports the Shetland News.

According to Mr Scott, the Shetlands would be a great choice for a number of reasons, including the fact that many locals currently live out of the reach of "even moderate speed broadband".

"The benefits of high-speed broadband to those living or running businesses in Shetland would be considerable," the MSP added.

Earlier this month, Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale MSP Jeremy Purvis said he is keen to see the Borders region become the most connected rural area of Scotland by 2020.
