Southport businesses desperate for fibre broadband

Firms that operate in the seaside resort of Southport are becoming increasingly frustrated with the area's lack of fibre optic broadband.

Business owners claim they are falling behind competitors located in nearby areas because their lack of connectivity is slowing down their daily operations.

Matt Naylor is the boss of Nationwide IT Support, which has been present in the area for 12 years.

He told the Southport Visiter: "It is a nightmare in the town centre, we have noticed how we are being held back by the lack of fibre broadband - it is desperately needed."

The business is located on Leicester Street in the heart of the town centre and is served by the only cabinet in Southport that is yet to be upgraded.

BT has also introduced superfast connections to a range of towns and cities in the surrounding areas of Lancashire, but it has given disenchanted Southport property owners no definite date on when they can expect to be connected to the service.
