Still no fibre broadband for Northamptonshire residents

There are still no plans to bring fibre broadband to the village of Rushton, despite residents' growing frustrations.
Still no fibre broadband for Northamptonshire residents
A village in Northamptonshire is being held back because it has no access to fibre optic broadband, claims an MP.

The lack of a superfast connection in Rushton has become such an issue of contention in the area that Kettering MP Philip Hollobone was forced to raise it in Parliament, criticising service provider BT.

He said: "It seems to me that BT is a big company that sometimes does not treat small communities very well. Residents are complaining that they are not getting the proper broadband access they deserve, despite their best efforts with BT."

His comments follow concerns that BT is only including areas with population densities that it deems commercially viable as part of its £2.5 billion nationwide rollout.

One Rushton resident who made his frustrations known to Mr Hollobone explained that the village has had enduring problems with its internet connection. John Tyas told the Northamptonshire Telegraph the connection is not only one of the slowest in the country, but has also cut out completely on a number of occasions in recent years.
