Superfast fibre broadband on its way to Stockport
Homes and businesses based in the Greater Manchester town of Stockport have been told they are next in line to benefit from access to fibre optic broadband, thanks to the Get Digital Faster regional rollout programme.

Currently, four green roadside cabinets are live in the area, delivering the technology to around 200 premises, but this is set to increase by another 150 as an additional three cabinets are switched to fibre in the coming weeks.

This development follows the government's announcement that one million UK homes now have access to superfast broadband.

Leader of Stockport Council Sue Derbyshire commented: "On the day the government announces a major milestone across Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) projects nationally, I'm delighted to be able to announce Stockport is set for high-speed fibre broadband."

Get Digital Faster is a £15 million partnership from network provider BT and Transport for Greater Manchester on behalf of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. Funding from local authorities, BDUK, BT and the European Development Fund North-West is helping to make the technology rollout possible.

Overall, it aims to connect 45,000 properties to fibre broadband by March 2016.
