Superfast Staffs broadband rollout passes 30,000 properties
Fibre optic broadband has been rolled out to more than 30,000 homes and businesses in Staffordshire thanks to a major partnership between the county council and BT.

The milestone achievement, which means the project is now a third of the way towards completion, comes as the government announced that the nationwide Broadband Delivery UK programme has brought the technology within reach of two million properties.

Among the latest beneficiaries of the Superfast Staffordshire initiative are previously uncovered parts of Ash Bank, Kidsgrove, Milford and Stone, while fibre broadband has also been extended to Abbots Bromley, Blackshaw Moor and Colton for the first time.

Since work on the project kicked off ten months ago, more than 170 live fibre cabinets have been installed across the county.

County Councillor Mark Winnington, Cabinet Member for Economy, Environment and Transport, said: "The Superfast Staffordshire project is vital to people and businesses. It will increase opportunities, accessibility and economic growth.

"This infrastructure is as important as road or rail – connecting people wherever they live."
