Superfast Surrey broadband rollout reaches significant milestone
The Superfast Surrey fibre broadband rollout programme - which is run by network provider BT and Surrey County Council - has completed over 75 per cent of its planned delivery of the high-speed technology to homes and businesses in the county.

Since its launch, the project has connected over 68,000 residential properties and commercial buildings to the superfast service, with 1,200 premises in Walton on the Hill and Tadworth next in line to gain access to better broadband.

Deputy Leader of Surrey County Council Peter Martin commented: "Reaching the latest milestone means that tens of thousands more Surrey businesses and residents can enjoy the benefits in a way they would not have been able to otherwise."

Overall, the rollout initiative aims to connect 84,000 properties to superfast broadband, in addition to the 370,000 BT has upgraded to fibre as part of its own nationwide delivery programme.

For Superfast Surrey to achieve its target, 391,000 metres of cables will need to be laid, over 30 telephone exchanges will be upgraded and more than 620 green roadside cabinets will be installed.
