Leading broadband providers T-Mobile and 3 have struck a deal to benefit mobile broadband users across the UK.

Through their Mobile-Broadband-Network (MBNL) joint venture, the companies have signed an agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks to extend the coverage of their mobile broadband infrastructure.

The deal could benefit those who like to access the internet via mobile devices such as laptops.

According to MBNL, it means that 98 per cent of the population could be able to access the shared infrastructure once the necessary upgrades have been put in place.

"As high-speed mobile broadband becomes increasingly adopted for fast, simple internet access wherever you are, network performance becomes an increasingly important competitive differentiator," said Emin Gurdenli, technical director at T-Mobile.

The news comes hot on the heels of the announcement from 3 that it has launched a new product that delivers an in-car internet connection.

Its In Car Wi-Fi offering was premiered at the Gadget Show in Birmingham and it enables car users to gain access to the web from netbooks and other mobile devices without the need for wires.
