West Sussex broadband plans progressing
Plans to bring faster, more reliable broadband to every home and business in West Sussex are moving forward.

The county council-led West Sussex Better Connected (WSBC) has conducted a review of communications companies' plans to roll out broadband in the area to identify communities that are set to miss out on next-generation internet access.

Locations that are unlikely to benefit from commercial broadband deployments may be deemed suitable for intervention by the WSBC project.

The rural nature of much of West Sussex means large chunks of the county are viewed as not commercially viable for broadband improvements by network operators, which prefer to focus their rollouts on densely populated urban areas.

WSBC is now confirming with providers the information about the communities that currently have fast broadband or are set to receive access in the coming months.

Lionel Barnard, deputy leader of West Sussex County Council, said: "The maps are available for the public to comment upon, particularly if they are aware of a broadband service currently available in an area which is not included in the mapping."
