BT exec impressed with Barrow fibre optic broadband demand
BT's strategy chief has praised Barrow residents for the Cumbrian town's rise up the Race to Infinity charts.

The North West Evening Mail revealed the community is currently stood just outside the top five having received more than 1,000 votes, with the scheme set to finish at the end of the month.

Some 4.39 per cent of the local population have registered their interest in being able to receive fibre optic broadband, with BT promising to roll the technology out to the five exchange areas with the highest levels of demand.

Liv Garfield, director of strategy at BT, backed the efforts of householders and businesses in Barrow, telling the newspaper she is "impressed" with the way the town has climbed the league table.

However, Barrow is still some way behind the leaders of the super-fast broadband race, which BT recently confirmed as Caxton in Cambridgeshire, Malvern in Worcestershire and Burley-In-Wharfedale in Yorkshire and the Humber.
