BT Total Broadband customers are going to enjoy no restrictions when using the company's Wi-Fi hotspots, it has been announced.

Mobile broadband firm BT is to offer its customers unlimited access to its BT Fon and BT Openzone wireless hotspots.

It means people using laptops and iPads on-the-go will be able to access high-speed internet connections at over 1.5 million locations across the UK, the company claims.

John Petter, consumer managing director for BT Retail, said: "Because of the growing number of BT customers with mobile devices such as tablet computers and smartphones, we know that mobile access to the internet is needed more than ever before.

"Our BT Fon and BT Openzone networks expanded by 800,000 hotspots during 2009 and we expect to have over 2.5 million hotspots by the end of 2011."

This Wi-Fi coverage is unique to BT customers and is included in all BT Total Broadband packages, he added.

BT recently announced that it would expand its fixed-line broadband network with the roll-out of superfast fibre-optic broadband across 87 per cent of London.
