BT restates fibre optic broadband aims
BT has again expressed its desire to increase the coverage of its fibre optic cable broadband network in the UK.

The telecoms giant recently announced it has added its 15 millionth broadband customer, with more than five million of these connections being via BT Retail, while the rest are courtesy of rival providers - such as O2 and Sky - using BT's network.

On welcoming the announcement, strategy director at BT Olivia Garfield pointed out that the company's decision to invest in broadband back in 2002 was met with scepticism from some parties.

However, she said the figures now "speak for themselves", adding: "The story doesn't end here as BT is now investing a further £2.5 billion to roll out fibre broadband to two-thirds of the UK."

Work has already begun on connecting many parts of the UK to BT's fibre optic broadband network, with the bundle provider recently announcing that more than 8,000 properties in Penarth would soon be able to benefit from the technology.
