Councillor proclaims South Shields broadband a big step
Broadband services in South Shields in the north-east of England have been given a significant speed boost, as a super-fast £2.5 billion fibre broadband scheme has gone live in parts of south Tyneside.

Councillor Iain Malcolm - who leads South Tyneside Council - welcomed the move as a significant step forward for the borough.

"High-speed digital connectivity will be a defining factor in our long-term success, because it gives businesses a competitive edge and provides them with access to new markets," he commented.

It is hoped that further boosts to the borough's economy will be delivered by the end of next year, when the scheme will be expanded to include Boldon.

Regional director of the north-east for BT Farooq Hakim said that the arrival of faster broadband in South Shields will really help to quicken the pace of services like file and data transfers, which will benefit businesses and individuals alike.
