Is Virgin Media planning 400Mbps broadband?
Broadband firm Virgin Media has said it wants to prepare for the future by getting its equipment ready to handle ultra-superfast broadband of 400Mbps, but has not committed to offering the service.

Virgin Media executive director Jon James told Tech Radar: "We know very well we can do 200Mbps and we could do 400Mbps.

"We are launching a new modem by the end of the year that will be 400Mbps capable. And that's a vehicle for the evolution of our speed portfolio in the next two years."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the broadband bundles firm told ZDNet UK that the firm is only getting its equipment ready.

"We are not saying we are looking at 400Mbps," the spokesperson said.

It remains unclear exactly what the company plans, but with a 200Mbps broadband trial in Ashford, it may not be long before we see 400Mbps being rolled out.
