Minister pledges to uphold Cumbria broadband funding
Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries Ed Vaizey has given his assurance to the people of Cumbria that funding for the rollout of improved superfast broadband connectivity for the area will be maintained.

He responded to a question from Penrith & the Border MP Rory Stewart at a debate on the future of funding for broadband improvement schemes at London's Westminster Hall this week.

Mr Vaizey said the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is hoping to deliver a flexible approach to broadband rollout for the area and will draw on key European funding to make sure as many people as possible have access to superfast services.

The minister commented: "We are working hard with DCLG to come up with a solution because it is important, when European money is on the table, that that money is spent well on behalf of our constituents."

He concluded that funding is already in place for the whole of 2015 and discussions are in an advanced stage to secure investment for the following years.
