Another new report has predicted substantial growth for mobile broadband across the world over the coming years.

Last month, analysts at Ovum claimed there will be around 3.2 billion mobile broadband live connections by 2015, by which time this type of service will be 300 per cent more prevalent than fixed-line internet.

In the wake of this study, experts at Pyramid Research have now forecast that the global mobile broadband market will reach one billion connections during 2012.

To cope with this rising demand, the organisation said that service providers - such as 3 Mobile, O2, Vodafone, Orange, Virgin Media and T-Mobile - will need to invest "billions" in the deployment of 4G networks.

Berge Ayvazian, senior consultant at Heavy Reading and director of 4G Consulting Practice, said: "Operators planning to deploy 4G networks face many technical, strategic, and business complexities in how to manage their network evolution and critical questions on how to get a return on their investments."
