Nokia Siemens Networks planning UK LTE trial
The telecoms firm is keen to test the technology before next year's 4G mobile spectrum auction.
Speaking to Fonehome, Ben Roome said the proposed pilot scheme is likely to see the telecoms firm collaborating with Cambridge Wireless.
He explained NSN is looking to carry out the project ahead of the 4G mobile spectrum auction - set to take place in 2012 - in order to assess what LTE offers to the UK.
When the spectrum sale has taken place, the organisation is keen to work with the new licence holders to plan, build, operate and maintain super-fast mobile networks and services across the country, Mr Roome stated.
"In addition, we would work with operators on the overall communications experience people get to deliver services - such as video, fixed broadband convergence, personalised billing and data plans - that demonstrate its true value," the NSN executive added.
The expert went on to insist the availability of 4G in the UK offers plenty for consumers to get excited about in terms of their mobile broadband browsing experience.
He insisted 4G offers "universal access" that will make people feel like they are browsing via a home or office internet connection while they are on the move.
When discussing the benefits offered by the technology, Mr Roome cited the example of Germany, where the government has ruled that 4G should first be brought to locations with no fixed-line broadband access.
"In Sweden, where we've also rolled out LTE, people on the move on buses and trains can maintain broadband speeds that allow them to watch high-definition streaming video, or online gaming," he added.
Earlier this year, NSN signed a deal with O2 to modernise its infrastructure by improving its capacity, performance and coverage.
Under the three-year contract, hardware will be installed at the carrier's existing network sites that can be used to support LTE services in the future once a simple upgrade has been carried out.
