TalkTalk announces North Yorks broadband speed boost
TalkTalk has pledged to roll out faster broadband in a North Yorkshire community thanks to a £50,000 investment in the area.

The internet service provider (ISP) claimed the upgrade work in North Craven will lead to improved connection speeds and will reduce the cost of broadband services for local consumers.

According to a spokeswoman, the infrastructure improvement programme will bring benefits to residents and businesses in Settle, Giggleswick, Stackhouse, Langcliffe, Stainforth and Helwith Bridge.

"Expanding its next-generation network allows TalkTalk to offer its best value for money packages to even more of the UK," she was quoted by the Craven Herald as saying.

"Investing in the local area allows us to bring our great value offers to even more families."

As well as rolling out improved broadband speeds, the ISP has been extending the reach of its own unbundled network in recent months.

During the final three months of 2011, the company unbundled a further 130 exchanges, while an additional 119 were set to be unbundled in the quarter to March 30th 2012. Provided this target has been met, TalkTalk will have delivered 450 new exchanges across its full 2011-12 financial year.

Of its total broadband customer base, 90 per cent of households are served by the TalkTalk network, while more than 80 per cent have fully unbundled lines, allowing them to take advantage of additional TalkTalk services such as HomeSafe and TalkTalk Plus.

At the end of the last quarter, 883,000 homes were signed up to TalkTalk Plus, the ISP's faster broadband service, representing 22 per cent of its overall subscriber base.

It is thought that more than one million customers will have opted for the TalkTalk Plus speed boost by the end of the 2011-12 period.

Dido Harding, chief executive of TalkTalk, said the success of the unbundling programme was one of the factors that persuaded the company to raise its earning expectations for the full year.
