TalkTalk to launch fibre optic broadband in January
TalkTalk has confirmed its fibre optic broadband offering will be available early in the new year.

The broadband bundle provider stated the service will be launched in January 2011 and will offer "guaranteed speeds" of at least 15Mbps, along with a maximum download capacity of 40Mbps.

According to TalkTalk, subscribers will be able to stream movies from the BBC iPlayer, YouTube and other such sites without experiencing any buffering, while uploading and sharing pictures can be achieved "in a flash".

Charles Dunstone, the company's chairman, confirmed the plans to release a super-fast broadband proposition in an interview with the Financial Times in October 2010.

He said the firm was keen to start making use of BT's high-speed infrastructure, adding: "We are working on a commercial launch."

In its recently-published financial results for the third quarter, TalkTalk revealed it had a total of 4.25 million people signed up to its home broadband and landline packages.
