TalkTalk has revealed its project to move broadband subscribers on to its own network is proceeding better than expected.

The company achieved its full-year target for 2010 of covering 85 per cent of customers with its infrastructure, a process known as unbundling.

Its next milestone is to unbundle an additional 700 exchanges across the UK, taking the scope of its service to 93 per cent of the population.

Work towards this goal has been started, with engineering currently taking place on 55 new exchanges, while planning for the next phase of the rollout is "well advanced".

Chief executive of TalkTalk Dido Harding commented: "Unbundling our customer base is ahead of target and the next phase of our network build-out is already underway."

In its previous interim results statement covering the three months to September 30th, the internet service provider revealed 81 per cent of its customer base was covered by its own network.

Some 4.224 million households are signed up to receive TalkTalk broadband.

And if customers are treated as I was this is a blip in a downward spiral. Many customers are now disputing faux charges on their bills such as connection charges for existing customers, complaining about loss of service and leaving TalkTalk due to false promises by sales staff.
