TP-LINK finds 51% of Brits want faster broadband
More than half of British consumers want faster broadband but a third are unaware of the speeds they are currently receiving, according to networking products firm TP-LINK.

Results from the TP-LINK Connectivity Report showed 32 per cent of respondents were unable to recall their upload or download rates, while 59 per cent were unsure about the speed of their router.

Some 31 per cent were able to confirm they were subscribed to speeds of up to 10Mbps from their internet service provider (ISP).

While the study highlighted a general lack of understanding about the range of broadband products available to end users, desire still exists for faster capabilities.

Three-quarters of those questioned said they are unhappy with their current broadband speed and 51 per cent would like to enjoy faster connectivity.

Eric Wang, UK country manager at TP-LINK, commented: "The reality is that so many consumers just accept the network packages offered by their ISP and don't understand how limiting some of the offers can be.

"Optimising your network to achieve better results is so simple and this is why we at TP-LINK believe it's up to us and the wider networking industry to assist consumers in this education journey."

Furthermore, the report shed some light on internet shopping habits in the run-up to Christmas.

Some 37 per cent claimed they will use the web for research and product browsing, but only three per cent are planning to go online and make a purchase.

Instead, a significant number of respondents are keen to utilise the social side of the internet over the festive period, with 46 per cent set to use Skype, Facebook and email to keep in touch with their friends and family.

Despite this claim, the Interactive Media in Retail Group has predicted sales via internet stores in the UK will reach €81 billion (£69 billion) by the end of the year, making Britain the leading online retail economy in Europe.
