Unlimited broadband claims face investigation
Claims by some broadband firms of unlimited broadband are to be looked at by regulators.
The ASA is to launch an investigation into the way broadband ISPs have marketed some packages as offering unlimited downloads, NewMediaAge reports.
The agency will work with the British Code of Advertising Practice (BCAP) and the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) to draw up a broader framework for broadband companies to work within.
It is hoped that some kind of policy change could make it clearer for customers and providers.
The ASA's Lynsay Taffe told the website: "It's important that we look at this on a broader policy level with service providers, other regulators and consumer groups, rather than relying on individual ASA rulings that focus on a particular service on one platform.
"Therefore, the ASA has invited CAP and BCAP to review broadband speed and unlimited use claims."
Home broadband provider Sky recently launched a new triple play bundle including Sky TV, home phone and unlimited broadband for £26.50 a month.
