Virgin and Sky praised in consumer poll
Broadband bundles providers Sky and Virgin Media are among the most recommended companies by consumers, according to a new survey.

The study by analyst firm Satmetrix looked at how much people were prepared to recommend a company to others and found that the two home broadband firms were well ahead of other ISPs.

They beat off rivals such as BT, Orange and TalkTalk and were placed among the likes of Apple and Sony who were industry leaders in their own fields.

The study of 8,700 Brits used a Net Promoter Score (NPS) to assess the chances of someone suggesting the brand to a friend. Virgin and Sky both had an NPS of between nine and ten per cent.

Overall, the ISP industry performance was some 21 points below Sky and Virgin, at an average of -11 per cent.

"A company's ability to deliver a superior customer experience relative to its industry peers is a critical indicator of customer retention and new customer acquisition through positive word of mouth," said John Abraham, general manager of Net Promoter programs at Satmetrix.

Sky recently launched a drive to attract new customers by offering 20Mbps broadband with TV and home phone for under £20 a month.
