Work commences on rural broadband roll-out
Villages in Lincolnshire are to be connected to superfast Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband after a community broadband specialist began work.

Fibrestream UK has started digging for its "pioneering" NextGenUs Final Third FTTH project for the villages of Ashby de la Launde and Bloxholm in the county.

Residents are set to enjoy access to superfast 100Mbps FTTH next-generation access (NGA) from the private and community partnership that involves no government support.

Fibrestream UK is working with civil engineering firm SCD to put in place the required quality carrier-grade duct work.

Recently, the company said its aim was "the effective use of NGA by all, to participate and compete in the global economy."

The FTTH Council Europe, an industry body which promotes FTTH technology, welcomed the recent unveiling of the European Commission's New Digital Agenda which set out the goal of connecting half of Europe's households to 100Mbps broadband by 2020.
