Better broadband arrives in Overseal
Overseal, a village based in South Derbyshire, has received a connection to superfast fibre optic broadband, with over 12,000 premises benefiting from the arrival of the high-speed technology.

The Burton Mail reports that engineers have almost completed broadband delivery work in nearby Melbourne too and residents there should be able to access the superfast service in time for Christmas.

It is the £27.67 million Digital Derbyshire initiative that has rolled out improved broadband to Overseal and neighbouring Melbourne, which is run in association with the government and service provider BT.

Cabinet Member for Jobs, Economy and Transport at the local council Joan Dixon commented: "The internet plays such a big role in our daily lives and Digital Derbyshire will open up endless business and leisure opportunities, help to boost our rural areas, support economic growth and allow local communities to continue to thrive."

She added that better broadband should be coming to an extra 88,000 homes and businesses across the county to bring 95 per cent connectivity by 2017.
