Broadband 'key to sustaining rural communities'
The importance of implementing super-fast broadband in rural communities has been underlined by iNorthumberland.

This organisation is responsible for administering the funding and rollout of the improved internet service in the north-east community.

Programme director for the company Stephen Gray said that the recent £450,000 cash injection from Defra's Rural Community Broadband Fund to bring a service to the Rothbury and Coquetdale areas is simply the first piece in the jigsaw when it comes to connecting the county.

He added that it "shows that it is possible to secure this even in some of the most challenging of landscapes".

Indeed, Northumberland is largely a rural area, the likes of which are the focus of such improvements.

An agreement has been reached between the Country Land & Business Association and the National Farmers' Union that is hoped to facilitate future extensions of home and business broadband services.

"Broadband is key to sustaining rural communities like Rothbury and supporting economic growth," Mr Gray commented.
