BT praised for bringing fibre broadband to Lindfield
BT's decision to extend its fibre optic cable broadband service to the village of Lindfield, West Sussex, has been praised by the local MP.

Nicholas Soames, who represents Mid Sussex, said the technology - which offers maximum upload and download speeds of ten and 40Mbps respectively - is "fantastic news" for the community and will "really help" the area.

He went on to congratulate the local lobbyists who urged their peers to vote in BT's Race to Infinity, the scheme used by the telecoms giant to determine the parts of the country with the most demand for super-fast broadband.

"Their campaign has really demonstrated what can be achieved when people pull together for a common goal," Mr Soames remarked.

Lindfield will begin to benefit from the upgrade to its telephone exchange by early 2012 at the latest, BT has pledged.

No other rural parts of Sussex have been included in the company's most recently announced fibre broadband deployment plans.
