BT Race to Infinity wins welcomed by campaigners
Lobbyists from the six victorious communities have hailed their success in the fibre optic broadband scheme.
Baschurch in Shropshire, Blewbury in Oxfordshire, Caxton and Madingley in Cambridgeshire, Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders and Whitchurch in Hampshire have been unveiled as the six victors in the vote, which closed on New Year's Eve.
Commenting on the news, Whitchurch lobbyist John Buckley said access to super-fast broadband will make the area better for home workers and businesses.
Chris Whatmore, campaign co-ordinator for Blewbury, revealed the community's oldest resident - aged 101 - was among the locals to vote in the scheme.
"With proper, future-proof broadband, Blewbury can attract people or businesses that need and depend on high-speed data connectivity," Mr Whatmore added.
BT has previously stated that before the end of January, it will unveil up to 40 rural market towns as future recipients of its fibre optic broadband service.
