BT has rolled out its next-generation copper broadband service to a further 51,000 homes and businesses across Kent.

Among the latest communities in the south-east county to benefit from the deployment are Ash Green, Hildenborough, Paddock Wood and Westerham.

The telecoms giant's investment will give local customers access to download speeds of up to 20Mbps.

By next spring, BT is aiming to roll out the technology to approximately 90 per cent of commercial and residential properties in the south-east, up from the current proportion of around 86 per cent.

John Weaver, the company's regional director for the south-east, said: "Faster broadband is touching the lives of everyone - from small businesses and homeworkers, to internet shoppers, students, families and online gaming enthusiasts - and transforming the way we do things, for the better."

Elsewhere in the south-east, BT is also deploying faster copper broadband to an additional 25,000 homes and businesses in Hampshire, with the news welcomed by the county council.
