To coincide with its tenth anniversary, the Alnwick Food Festival has announced it has gained a new sponsor - network provider BT.

The Northumberland Gazette reports that the telecommunications giant has been busy delivering the latest broadband and technology to homes and businesses in the region, but will be taking on a slightly different role by acting as sponsor for the popular food and drink event.

In fact, Alnwick was actually the first location to benefit from gaining access to superfast broadband under BT's Northumberland rollout.

BT Regional Manager for the North-East Simon Roberson commented: "We are proud to sponsor the Alnwick Food Festival 2014."

He added that he is a Northumberland resident himself and was therefore "proud to support an event that recognises and showcases the hard work and achievements" of local people.

The Alnwick Food Festival will take place over the weekend of 20 and 21 September 2014, featuring a whole host of events, including culinary classes with famous Chef Jean-Christophe Novelli at the town's brand new cookery school.
