Business broadband speeds in North Norfolk criticised
A Norfolk community could become a rural backwater if home and business broadband speeds in the area are not improved.

Robin Smith, economic development manager for North Norfolk District Council, told the Eastern Daily Press that some areas around Sheringham and Cromer are unable to get broadband or mobile signal.

Unless the matter improves and faster web connections are brought to the region, it will fail to fulfil its potential over the next 15 years, he argued.

In fact, Mr Smith insisted the issue is so serious that North Norfolk could find itself lagging behind urban areas over the coming years.

"I foresee ... that if we don't change our broadband coverage then we will become a backwater," he commented. "It will only be broadband that will bring life back into our communities."

His remarks come after North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb said businesses and residents throughout his constituency are having to cope with slow speeds, while some cannot access broadband at all.
