Career change for pig farmer results in broadband business
Starting up a broadband business may not seem like the most obvious form of career progression for a pig farmer, but for Richard Dix from Heacham, it seems to have worked.

The Eastern Daily Press reports that the farmer turned technology whizz has been interested in IT from a young age, returning to his passion in recent years when pig farming became tougher than expected.

However, he hasn't left his farming roots completely behind, as in 2011, Mr Dix purchased his own domain name and began selling broadband - primarily to rural customers.

Within just three years, his business has grown from making a profit of £180,000 to turning over half a million pounds, from its 200 satellite customers.

Mr Dix explained how important good broadband speeds are to the rural community, stating: "Internet is hugely important to farming, things like cattle passports and paperwork [for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs] all have to be registered online now."
