Digital Region pledges to put fun back into Sheffield's broadband
Internet service provider Littlebigone.com has joined the Digital Region broadband network in South Yorkshire.
Littlebigone.com joined the Sheffield-based super-fast broadband project last month and is the first internet service provider on the network to offer a bundled package with speeds of up to 37 Mbps.
Managing director Teresa Robbins said the company is "excited" to be involved in an initiative that will greatly improve the online experience for people across the city.
She told the Yorkshire Post: "When the internet is slow this takes the enjoyment out of using it and you end up feel like you're wasting time, but when it's instant, as it should be, it really makes a difference.
"We want people to have more fun with the internet and really get to grips with how easy it can make life."
Launched in 2008, Digital Region is now on course to deliver super-fast broadband to 80 per cent of homes and businesses across South Yorkshire by the end of the year.
It is expected to cover 97 per cent of the region by the time of completion.
The scheme was set up with money from the European Regional Development Fund and is owned by the four local authorities in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.
Other internet service providers currently signed up to the network include ask4, Origin Broadband and Ripwire.
Richard Jepson, senior business development manager at Digital Region, is set to give a presentation at the NextGen11 conference in Bristol later this month.
He will speak about the councils' early adoption of public sector networks to improve collaboration and drive cost efficiencies.
