FTTH Council Europe chief backs Welsh broadband plans
Welsh next-generation broadband plans have been backed by communications impresario Karin Ahl, market and business development manager at RaLa Infratech and president of the FTTH (Fibre-to-the-Home) Council Europe.

Under the Superfast Cymru partnership between the Welsh government and BT, high-speed fibre broadband will be rolled out to 96 per cent of homes and businesses across the country, with the project set for completion in 2016.

Priority status has been given to as many as 30,000 properties in Bangor, Caernarfon, Dolgellau, Pwllheli, Menai Bridge and Porthmadog, with these upgrades due to be finished by June.

Speaking to the Daily Post Wales' Business Post, Ms Ahl said Wales is going about its rollout the right way by concentrating on the areas most in need of faster broadband.

"In Sweden, like Wales, there are a lot of rural areas with no connection and it's about getting that higher quality of life for the people, it really does make a difference," she explained.
