Suffolk superfast broadband project criticised
A Suffolk councillor has criticised the county's superfast broadband plans.
The Better Broadband for Suffolk initiative is set to bring speeds of 24Mbps or above to 85 per cent of homes and businesses in the area, while remaining properties will receive speeds of at least 2Mbps.
However, Framlingham County Councillor Stephen Burroughes said he is "slightly annoyed" that the contract has not forced the telecoms giant to deliver more extensive access to superfast connectivity, reports the East Anglian Daily Times.
Speaking after a meeting of Framlingham Town Council, he commented: "There were some concerns that the contract did not go far enough and it could have all been tied up at the beginning, instead of having to go back to the government for more money."
In response, a spokesman for the county council stressed that BT has so far met all of its agreed targets and said additional funding is being sought in a bid to further increase the coverage of the rollout.
