TalkTalk reveals fibre optic broadband plan
Leading broadband provider TalkTalk has revealed plans to get more customers on to its own fibre optic broadband network.

The company's current fibre optic network has coverage of around 80 per cent of the UK population but it aims to push this figure up to nearer 90 per cent over the next year, stated Mark Schmid, communications director at TalkTalk Group.

In order to achieve that target, the broadband provider intends to unbundle a further 300 exchanges from BT's legacy infrastructure, according to Mr Schmid, writing for the TalkTalk blog.

"We're also upgrading the capacity of our network in anticipation of ever-higher internet usage," he remarked.

Mr Schmid revealed that the industry expects online data consumption to surge by 50 per cent year-on-year over the coming years, which is why TalkTalk is enhancing its network.

Meanwhile, TalkTalk has opened its first Customer Experience Centre in Broadwick Street, London, where consumers are able to try out new online products and obtain the latest broadband advice.
