UK broadband rollout among world's fastest
The UK's superfast fibre broadband rollout is moving at a significant pace, with its implementation among the fastest in the world, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport has revealed.

When the delivery project began two years ago, just six per cent of all broadband connections were classed as superfast, but this has now increased to 26 per cent.

In addition, a significant number of the 44 rollout initiatives throughout the country are currently ahead of schedule, having brought the high-speed technology to over 1.5 million homes and businesses altogether.

Culture Secretary Sajid Javid commented: "Our transformation of the UK's digital landscape is progressing at an incredible rate and delivering a tremendous boost to the nation's economy as part of the government's long-term economic plan."

The government's rollout is on track to meet its target of delivering better broadband to some 95 per cent of UK premises by 2017.
